The hardest moment on the Zone often isn't at the table. It's six in the evening, with an empty fridge and no plan for dinner. Ten or fifteen minutes on Sunday takes care of most of those evenings. Here's how to plan your week without turning meals into a second job.
Your plan starts with your daily block count, not with recipes. Split the blocks across your meals first. At 14 blocks a day, a common split is 4 blocks each for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus 1 block for each of two snacks. If you're still not sure what a block is, read what the Zone is and why it counts blocks.
You don't need a different recipe for every meal. Two or three main dishes, cooked in slightly bigger batches, cover several lunches and dinners. Add 2–3 breakfasts to rotate and the week is nearly done. For a ready starting point, try the full-day meal plan.
Check your calendar before you write anything down. Which night will you get home late, when are you eating out, when are you visiting someone? Plan something already cooked for the busy days and leave the restaurant night open. A plan that expects you to cook every evening lasts until Tuesday.
Once you know what you'll eat, the list writes itself: go through the dishes and note only what's missing at home. You buy less you don't need and rarely run out of protein midweek. There's more in our guide to Zone grocery shopping.
Protein takes the most time, and it's the easiest part to skip. Roast chicken, boil eggs, or cook ground meat at the start of the week. Vegetables and carbs come together quickly, and the base is already waiting in the fridge. It's also one of the small habits that make the Zone easier.
A plan is a guide, not a contract. If you want something else on Wednesday, swap the meal for one with the same number of blocks: protein for protein, carbs for carbs. One moved dinner doesn't ruin the week.
Starting with version 2.2.0, you can plan your food in the diary up to 7 days ahead. Pick a future day and add your meals as usual. Planned food doesn't count toward your day's blocks until you check it off, so your diary shows only what you actually ate. If you ate something else, just delete the planned item. If you cook your own recipes, save them in the Zonator to keep their blocks handy.
Planning is part of Premium. If you already have the app, update it from the App Store or Google Play. You can also download it there for the first time.
